PILOT PRIVACY POLICY
Pilot Live Map ("Pilot") is made by Joe Schubert. Pilot has no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and it does not send any information to us.
What Pilot uses on your iPhone
- Your location, if you allow it: used on your iPhone to centre the map, measure distances to aircraft and incidents, and decide when a new incident is within 25 km. It is not stored by Pilot and is never sent to us.
- Notifications, if you allow them: alerts are created on your iPhone by Pilot itself. No push service or server is involved.
What leaves your iPhone
To show live data, Pilot asks public data services for the area you are looking at. These requests go directly from your iPhone to each service; none of them go through us. Because the map usually starts where you are, the coordinates of the area you are viewing can be close to your location, and like any internet request each service can see your device's IP address. Pilot sends no name, account or device identifier.
- adsb.lol: the centre and radius of the map, to get aircraft positions.
- hexdb.io: the ICAO address of an aircraft you tap, to get its type and operator.
- MET Norway: the map centre (rounded to 4 decimal places), to get the weather forecast.
- Apple: map tiles, place names, Look Around imagery and location services, under Apple's privacy policy.
- Official incident services (GDACS, USGS, NASA EONET, ACT ESA, NSW RFS, Emergency Management Victoria, Queensland Fire Department, WA DFES, U.S. National Weather Service, UK Environment Agency, GeoNet): Pilot downloads their public lists of current incidents. No location is sent to them.
Each service handles requests under its own privacy policy. Links you open (an official incident page, Planespotters.net, FlightAware) open in your browser under that site's policy.
Aircraft owners
Pilot shows the registered owner of an aircraft only when the owner is an organisation, such as an airline, operator or government. It does not show the names of private individuals.
Children
Pilot does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Your rights and contact
Because Pilot holds no personal information about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. You can stop location use at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Pilot. Questions: schubertjoe85@gmail.com.
Pilot is for information only. In an emergency call your local emergency number and follow the advice of the emergency services. Last updated: 3 November 2026.
